Second Prize Winner in the "The Environment-Friendly School" Contest

In the last couple of years, environmental awareness is on the rise in Lebanon. Our school
participated in a contest organized by the editors of a magazine called "Environment and
Development". The theme of the contest was "The Environmental - Friendly School". The seventh
and eighth grade students organized this project which included the following activities:

Collection of glass for recycling
Installation of a tank to make fertilizers from out of home-organic wastes
Teaching children how to plant trees
Cleaning the school campus
Visiting the Anjar spring and placing waste baskets and signs about cleanliness
Organizing a paper drive.

It is noteworthy that during the last two academic years, a group of five students has been
faithfully collecting used paper from the classrooms in order to sell them to a recycling factory at
the end of this academic year.

More than 300 schools, all over Lebanon, participated in the contest. We are happy to announce
that our school won the SECOND PRIZE. We received the prize during a ceremony in the
presence of the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr. Arthur Nazarian. The prize included:

1.A certificate
2.Books about the environment
3.One year of internet membership
4.A TV interview about the project
